Resumo

Desde a época de Hipócrates acredita-se que mente e corpo exercem influência mútua. Embora essa relação tenha sido rejeitada por longos períodos pela medicina e negligenciada por parte da Psicologia, tornou-se uma das áreas mais promissoras da pesquisa contemporânea. Atualmente, investigações sobre a interação entre processos emocionais e corporais utilizam recursos sofisticados, incluindo ressonância magnética funcional, tomografia por emissão de pósitrons e estudos genéticos relacionados aos neurotransmissores. Este artigo discute a integração entre corpo e emoções sob a perspectiva da Psicologia Corporal, destacando a importância dessa relação para a compreensão da saúde, do comportamento e do funcionamento humano.

Abstract

Since the time of Hippocrates, it has been believed that mind and body exert mutual influence. Although this relationship was rejected for long periods by medicine and neglected by parts of psychology, it has become one of the most promising areas of contemporary research. Today, investigations into the interaction between emotional and bodily processes employ sophisticated tools, including functional magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography, and genetic studies related to neurotransmitters. This article discusses the integration between body and emotions from the perspective of Body Psychology, highlighting the importance of this relationship for understanding health, behavior, and human functioning.
