Resumo

Pesquisas recentes demonstraram que o sistema imunológico de pessoas com anorexia nervosa apresenta características distintas quando comparado ao da população em geral. Estudos em psiconeuroimunologia sugerem que o padrão esquivo frequentemente observado nesses indivíduos manifesta-se tanto em nível comportamental quanto no funcionamento do sistema imunológico, que parece responder de forma reduzida a determinados estímulos neuroendócrinos, metabólicos e farmacológicos. Este artigo discute essa hipótese à luz da Psicologia Corporal, relacionando os conceitos de rigidez, isolamento e encouraçamento com os aspectos imunológicos observados em indivíduos com anorexia nervosa.

Abstract

Recent research has shown that the immune system of individuals with anorexia nervosa presents characteristics that differ from those found in the general population. Studies in psychoneuroimmunology suggest that the avoidant pattern commonly observed in these individuals manifests itself not only at the behavioral level but also in immune functioning, which appears to respond less effectively to certain neuroendocrine, metabolic, and pharmacological stimuli. This article discusses this hypothesis from the perspective of Body Psychology, relating concepts such as rigidity, isolation, and character armor to the immunological aspects observed in anorexia nervosa. The paper seeks to integrate contributions from psychoneuroimmunology and Body Psychology in order to broaden the understanding of this disorder.
